I'd generally go with Linux as I trust its security a whole lot more.

The real decision basically comes down to "Do you want ASP?", if you do, go with Windows. If you want some other server side scripting support, then Linux is likely a better bet.

I believe that Linux hosting is generally cheaper too, so it should probably be your default choice.

Professionals prefer Linux over Windows as it is more secure, more reliable, and cheaper. Also, Linux is designed to last 5 years, while Windows is only good for 3.
