Ive had my ps2 for 4 years or so so im not asure if its gae. but when i go to play games which ive used like metal gerasolid 2 or gta or anything that used some. evebn though they are bot scratched, it will not load the game it always says disc read error, it will play brand new games but once they get some play it wont play them except once in a blue moon. i got a disc scratch remover thing and it didnt do anything and i know the problem isnt because its scratched or got stuff on it.
any clues or suggestions at all would be great, cause until i can even find a ps3 im sticking wiht this for a while and i want 2 play these games, thanks.

The laser eye that reads the game is failing. The older they get the more sensitive they get to scratches and smudges. The average life for a PS2 is 3 to 5 years.Yours falls in between that area so its time for a new one.You can get a PS2 pretty cheap nowadays due to the new console generation.I got mine right when they came out and it lasted about 2 years,I bought another one after that right before the slim version came out and have had it ever since. The slim version are alot better than the older phat boy ones due to the fact the console has been out for a good number of years and Sony has worked out all the kinks. The slim version is the only one you can buy new nowadays but if your on a budget you can always get a guaranteed used console from Gamestop or Ebgames.Hope I helped...

The probable cause is that your PS2's laser reader has started to fail. It is happening to me too. Time for a PS3....hehehe
