You should be extremely proud of him, he makes up for all the lazy husbands out here.

I bet a lot of older women wish their husbands wouldn't just sit around and let themselves go to seed just because they're advanced in years. Consider yourself lucky! He's keeping active and healthy and productive.
Get out there with him, or find activities you like yourself if he considers all of that his personal domain. Are you missing the time the two of you could spend together? Let him know *that*, rather than criticizing the fact that he's doing an activity he likes. Maybe he'll make more quiet time for the two of you.

If he's in good health then let him go at it.
As long as he's not trying to move heavy bags of fertilizer long distances without a wheelbarrow,or other overly strenuous endeavours,he's doing just what he should.
It's important for seniors (and the rest of us too!) to stay active, especially in this world of gadgets, gizmos, and conveniences. There's no better way to let your body deteriorate than to just sit around. The process just gets quicker as you get older.
If you're in good enough shape then you might want to consider joining him in his hobbies.
Be glad that you don't have a lump for a husband. Some wives can't get their 30 something husbands to even take out the trash!

Question: Is what he doing putting him at risk for anything?
Is he wearing sunblock? (cancer)
Is he unsure on his feet? (Falls and no one can find him)
Does he have a heart condition where physical exertion could trigger an episode?
I think you know where I am going with this.
You know your husband better then anyone reading this.
Do you think that mentally he NEEDS to do this?
Is he the sort of person who must always keep busy?
If he is not putting himself in danger, and it's a need to keep busy, please let him be.
If he IS putting himself in danger, keep track of what he does, keep track of his physical symptoms, and tag along on the next doctor's appointment and "Tattle" on him.
If he is doing himself harm, if you can't talk him out of it, maybe his Doctor can.
Maybe there are tools he can use that would be less strenuous on him when outside.
If he is hell-bent on being outside, there is a reason. Find the reason, alleviate THAT cause, and you may not have to worry about him as much.
good luck

My husband also loves working outdoors. His father worked outdoors in the garden and on the lawn till he was 88 years old.

Talk to him and find out why he is having trouble relaxing and enjoying himself. On the other hand though, he may really enjoy this work and you would probably prefer he do this than hit the bars and chase women. If his health is at risk for some reason, discuss this with his doctor and see if he can talk to him about it.

Well, tell him to slow it down a bit, but if gardening is what he wants to do, so be it. You could try helping him, and that would take burden off his shoulders

I think it's great that he has the energy & inclination to work hard. Gardening is good excercise & he's keeping busy out of the house (not driving you crazy) & I'll bet your garden looks great!

let him be he is happy, but maybe if you talk to him and tell him to take a break once in a while. but I know what you mean, my dad when he retired was like that always doing something never resting, but he was happy. he felt useful. and he didn't like to rest until he got home from whatever he was doing. but he was on the go from 8 in the morning til about 6 at night. and we told him to rest a while and wouldn't listen. so we just let him do his thing.
