1. Your family is moving, and you are asked to help move some boxes. One box is so heavy that you must push it across the room rather than lift it. What are some ways you could reduce friction to make moving the box easier?

2.A kangaroo hops 60 m to the east in 5 seconds.
a. what is the kangaroo's speed?
b. What is the kangaroo's velocity?
c.The kangaroo stops for a drink of water, than starts hopping again to the south. Every second, the kangaroo's velocity increases 2.5 miles south. What is the kangaroo's acceleration after 5 seconds?

1.)Friction is equal to the weight of the box times the friction coefficient. So the only ways to reduce the force needed to push it are to reduce either of those two. The weight the box puts on the floor can be reduced by lifting up on it as you push or something like that. The friction coefficient can be reduced by putting something inbetween the box and the floor that has a lower coefficent like a cloth or wheels.

2.)
a) Speed is just the number, so the kangaroo's speed is 60 meters divided by the time(speed has units of length per time). The time is 5 seconds which should probably be converted to hours. 5 seconds is 0.083 minutes (i just divided by 60 because 60 seconds in a hour). 0.083 minutes is 0.00389 hours (dividing by 60 again because 60 minutes in an hour). Then 60 meters /0.00389 hours is 43,200 meters per hour or 43 km/hr.

b) velocity is vector, which means it has the number (or magnitude) and the direction. The kangaroos velocity is 43 km/hr East.

c) Acceleration is how fast the velocity is changing. In this case the speed is changing by 2.5 miles every second, so the acceleration s 2.5 miles per second squared.

I feel pretty confident in the answers, I'd say 9.8.

1.You could lift the box up a bit to reduce pressure. You could put it on wheels because rolling friction is less than static friction.

2.
a. 12 m/s (60m/5s=12m/s)
b. 12 m/s to the east
c. The acceleration would be 2.5 miles/second south. I think you really wanted the velocity so just take 2.5*5 and that's 12.5miles/second south

I'm 100% sure about these, so I rate myself a 10
