If art is the expression of life and experience in all its forms, and representation is a particular interpretation of a form or idea, then the combination might be something like this:
The physical expression of an object or idea from the point of view of an individual's or group's understanding of what art means to them.

You can put it this way. A photograph may be an actual representation of a person while a painting can be an artistic representation because artists will take the liberty of changing the persons looks as they see fit. Take a look at some of Andy Warhol's prints and Picasso. No woman looks like a cube, not ones I've seen anyway, that was his artistic representation.

Artistic representation is anything made by an artist who intends their art to "represent" something "real". For example, I could draw a circle with two dots and a curving line and call it a "happy face". It's not a "real" happy face, but it represents one.
