It is VERY difficult to teach a fert their name. lol In fact...no ferret I have ever known seems to care about their name!
This isn't to say I have not tried! I've tried treats, clickers, light training...none worked.
I can tell you what ferrets respond to though! Just reaching your hand to the floor and rubbing your fingers together attracts them...treats (of course)...and toys. All of these things won't help him/her learn their name BUT it is a way of "calling" them and letting them know you wanna say 'hi' to them.
Good luck!

At 3 he is a bit old to learn his name but if you call a name out at feeding times it may work, a whistle or noise might be better again try it at feed time

i dont think they can learn ther names. i think they can adapt with a familiar sound. i.e. whistle = food.
i kept ferrets before, primarily for hunting. i would put them down a rabbit warren, and waited with the farmer with a shotgun for the rabbits to bolt. any rabbit that bolted, we'd shoot. shortly after firing, the ferrets would appear from different holes to get their free food, rabbit livers.
i think your ferrets will be able to associate your with food only. also they go on a sense of smell, you may notice that they may bite strangers and not you.

im not to sure how well ferrets learn there names.......i had three and none of them learned there names.....i guess you could try treats when you call to him and he comes give him a treat....hold it down so he will smell it and come while your saying his name....don't call him anything other than his name....

They respond better to a whistle, make a special one and link it to food, repeat it and he'll soon learn to respond.
