I'm french, throughout the world, this sport is the most loved, in Europe: it's nearly a religion (mostly in U.K) and we're under the impression that you're interesting really bit to that sport. Am i wrong ? And if i'm not, why ? How do you explain that in Europe we got the best championships and best clubs: the best football? Usually, the best of everything is in US no ? lol

That is a good question... I am British born, but vary much an American, as I have lived in the States for 25 years... You are right, Association Football or Soccer is the greatest sport in the world if you consider its fan base. And to the person that stated the the Superbowl is the most watched... Do some more research.... Some 50 million viewers watched the last SB, where as 2 billion plus people watched the last World Cup.... As to why Americans view Soccer as minor sport? We aren't vary good. To be honest, our National team is at best average. AMERICANS like to win, if we cant win, we don't want to play! We just can not compete with the best teams in the World. I guarantee, if we were good, and were able to win or compete for the World Cup, there would be Soccer Mania in the US... The woman are good, but it would take our Mens team to really change things here... As to why we aren't any good... Our academy system is non existent, so our ability to develop talent domestically is a joke... Our best players typically have to go to Europe to hone their skills.... Things are changing slowly, but I think it is going to take a phenom to come along to get Americans to catch on to what the rest of the World already knows...

Kind of like how Tiger Woods has created a whole generation of Golf fans....

I my self am pure french from France, generations to gernations but I lived in anada and US for years. I love all kinds of sports and loved the way the alwys play in Olympiques, tehy ae the best in the world even tough last time Italy cheated adn did eveyr thing lies to win and how nice french people acted in such situation! But any ways, I lvoe Hockey an other type of sport we do not apreciate in France. Americans have an other foot ball so they call it but the already have their own foot ball and tha is may be the reason why soccer have never been such a big heat(yet). But believe me Americans are catching up! They were very good last time at the Olympiques considering how new they are at this game!THe weather can change the attitude of a group of people toward a specific kind of sport since in Canda we have 8months of winter in a year unlike France.Vive Zedan and french team!

There are Americans that love football...me included. It is gaining more acceptance and popularity. It is still seen as a game to play to stay in shape for American football...Most Americans like more scoring and more breaks so they can go refresh their beer and see some commercials.

I plan to go to Europe in the next five years to see a match...Man U would be cool.

before i say anything, i'm from the u.s. AND I LOVE FOOTIE! of course, that gets me called gay by most people. everyone else here is in love with nascar or the nfl. basically, most of the u.s. are redneck hillbillies who are all about sub-par sports. about the talent part, the fact that the u.s. has ignored football for a good 200 years would probably explain why the u.s. isn't a very big influence. although the u.s national team did fairly well last year at the world cup. it made me proud.

We have the NFL-American football is also almost a religion here. There are so many different teams to choose from, and more people take off work the Monday after Super Bowl Sunday than people do around Christmas. I agree that soccer teams in Europe could kick gr. a.ss here in the US, but we would SO cream you in American Football!

Because for some reason a lot of Americans are obsessed with football (American football) and I guess that became popular and there's not much room anymore for soccer. I do know a lot of people who love to play it but they don't enjoy watching it as much. Personally, I like soccer more than football but football is interesting to watch.

Firstly the US is not a state it is a country. Secondly, they suck at football. If they can't do it well they won't bother. Just wait though, they will eventually grow to dominate the sport and then everyone will want a piece of the action.

Because soccar is a substandard game, by the way we are a country.

We cant help it that you guys didnt upgrade to football which is superior. Proof? The Superbowl is the most watched event in the world, and gets over double the ratings of any other event worldwide EVERY YEAR.
