I have a very hard time going to sleep. I don't know if it's because I daydream too much, but sometimes I fall asleep in the middle of them. I try just laying there with my eyes closed for a long time, listening to the furnace blowing, but last time I tried that it didn't work very well.
The reason I need to go to sleep so badly is because sometimes I like to get up at about 7 AM to get on the computer, and I plan to go to bed early, but then I always end up staying awake, tossing and turning, till 11 or even midnight. Sometimes even 1! But that's only every once in a while.
What I need is a simple way to get to sleep, without any drugs or anything like that. I do not go to sleep easily at all, and I really want to get up early tomorrow morning because I have something really important to try to finish before Friday night. If anyone has any solutions I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

1. drink warm milk
2.listen to music (type of music depends on you)
3. count sheep (doesn't help me, but you never know!)
4. try changing the sheets to something more comfy
5. find a nice fluffy pillow
6. find a comfy position to sleep
7. read a LITTLE (don't read all night!)
8. clench all your muscles, then relax them one by one from your toes up (slowly).
9. daydream (may not work for you)
10. pretend that you're sleeping (deep breathing through nose, relaxed position, eyes closed, etc.)
11. make sure all the lights are off
that's all I've got. I think #10 and 8 are probably the best
Note: you don't need to do these in order or even do all of them

Hi Simbaholic.
Obviously, as you see, different things work for
different people, and in some cases, only some
of the time. But one of the things that helps me, is to
get all snuggly under the blanket (I even wear a hoodie
to bed, with the hoodie up for extra warmth/coziness).
Once you're warmed up, it's only a matter of time before
you start to drift off to sleep.
I got the idea to do this from the winter time.
You know, you're cold, so you put the heater on...
and pretty soon it's so warm, you find yourself dozing
off. Bundling up in a blanket (with optional hoodie) gives
a similar affect. At least for me, it does.
Try out a few different things, some mentioned on here...
and maybe even a search on Google for more suggestions and just see what works for YOU.
Wishing you a well-rested night...
JB

Thinking only makes it harder for you to sleep. Drugs can make you dependant on em so it's best you stay away. I find that if you're lying down and are not tired, forcing yourself to sleep doesn't help. The best thing to do is just get up and do something boring (watch a boring show, read a book) until you get tired.
I do not recommend this, but sometimes I like to elbow my thigh for the pain while I'm in bed, and then when you stretch it out it feels soothing and I just go to sleep. I also find that a nice massage helps. Music with words will not help, you'll find yourself singing along. Perhaps soothing instrumentals might?

My husband is in Iraq right now and I am extreamly stressed out all the time. I have a hard time falling asleep too. I find that listening to music like Enya puts me to sleep in about 20 min...you can download her songs off the internet by using limewire. I also exercise for about an hour and a half a day and that usually makes me so tired by the time i go to bed that I just pass out. If you still have problems I would go see a doctor.

When my mind is too active and I can't stop thinking over the days events (or the next days), I usually try the "counting sheep" thing, however I do it a little different, I count backwards. Start at 100 and count backwards. It puts all your concentration on it and you will start messing up, forgetting where you were and what comes next and you will fall asleep. Another idea is go to you local library and see if they have a book on self hypnosis, I've heard that people with insomnia find methods that help them relax and sleep.

Calomile tea , bedtime tea is good, helps you to relax. If you dont want to try Nyquil. Try putting the humifier on. You might have insomnia , that means a person that have trouble going to sleep. Try some relaxation , meditation music. Soak in a tub for about 15-30 minutes in a hot bath. You may have a sleeping disorder. They have cream to put all over your body to help you relax as well. Make sure its not hot in the house. Some people might use ear plugs to block out all the noise.
