WHY DOES THiS COUNTRY SWEEP OUR ELDERLY UNDER THE RUG?

I FIND IT A DISCRACE THAT IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IT IS HARD TO FIND FINANCIAL HELP FOR OUR SENIOR CITIZENS.

AMERICAN CITIZENS THEIR WHOLE LIVES, PAID TAXES, AND WORKED THEIR WHOLE LIVES AND YOU CAN'T EVEN FIND A 55 AND OVER COMPLEX WITHIN A PRICE RANGE OF THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY. MY FATHER WHO IS 61 FOUND OUT THAT HE HAS A HEART CONDITION AND CAN'T WORK ANYMORE.. NOT ABLE TO COLLECT FULL SOCIAL SECURITY BECAUSE OUR GOVERNMENT KEEPS CHANGING THE AGE LIMIT WHERE YOU ARE ABLE TO COLLECT SOCIAL SECURITY. IT USED TO BE 62 NOW IT IS 65 AND SOON IT WILL BE 67. IT IS REDICULOUS THAT OUR ELDERLY HAVE TO SUFFER.

WHY ISN'T THERE A PLAN FOR THE ELDERLY?

WHY DO WE HELP OTHER PEOPLE WHO COME HERE FROM OTHER COUNTRIES, BUT WE DO NOT HELP OUR OWN????
IT IS A DISCRACE THAT THE PEOPLE WHO HELPED MAKE THIS COUNTRY WHAT IT IS, ARE JUST SWEPT UNDER THE RUG, BUT IF YOU COME FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY OUR GOVERNMENT GIVES YOU TAX FREE LOANS, FREE SCHOOLING, SHELTER, FOOD, MEDICAL COVERAGE ECT.. ECT.. ECT..
THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS THE TWIN TOWERS WERE BOMBED.... WE FUNDED THEIR KNOWLEDGE, AND GAVE THEM AMUNITION TO FUND THE BOMBINGS, BUT WE CAN'T HELP OUR ELDERLY.... WHAT A COUNTRY!!

Why do ALL western cultures treat elders as if they are INVISIBLE.
Reason for EVERY-THING in Western cultures MONEY, MONEY MONEY.
There are a few families in the world who OWN most of every-thing. They are not evil, they are just GREEDY beyond life. They have power. They use this to adjust the world to make them acquire MORE money.
They make sure that those who have little money are ignored, put down, badly treated etc. because they do NOT help make these people richer.
These include minoritys, coloured, and the OLD

Many things evil and good happened because the few powerful men organised them that way during WW2. One family ALONE, who sold guns, provided the money for Hitlerand his evil ways.
A couple of American/English familys provided the money to defeat Hitler.Just a few people influenced the WHOLE WORLD. If it happened then for certain it can be happening now.
And your elderly are the treated as the rubbish, un-needed to do that most important thing - make these few families wealthy.
Become wealthy yourself; find out the truth and one day if you dare do some-thing.
I told my daughter this. She now works with politicians and other influential people, she dresses smart, talks the talk, walks the walk then. she sneaks funds into aged care and they, the powerful think she, my daughter is sweet.

Why. Short answer--corporate profit. Here's how the system of elder apartheid works:

In the past couple of decades, support systems for independant living have been developed for senior citizens that enable them to remain able to take care of themselves, with a minimum of help--but they can live and act independantly. The majoirty of our senior citizens who are in nursing homes could benefit from this.

In addition, it is far less expensive to provide independant living support than to commit someone to a nursing home.

However, as a result of extensive lobbying and campaign contributions (bribes) from the nursing home industry, the (Republican) Congress for the last decade has refused to authorize Medicare/Medicaid to pay for most independant living expenses--even though they will pay the tab for incarcerating people in nursing homes, where they are drugged to keep them submissive as a matter of routine procedure.

So many people --millions--end up in nursing homes--virtual prisoners--not because they need to be there, but because they--or their families--cant afford any other option.

That's part of the problem your question addresses-not a full answer, I know. But if we want to change the social status of the elderly, this is a DA*M good place to start.

Sounds to me you've been convinced that immigrants are the reason for all the ills of America. Bush has been working on the North american Union as we speak. If only it were that simple. Expect things to get much worse since US citizens think any kind of help-healthcare, help for the elderly, even unemployment is Socialist. They could have fixed Social security and Medicare, instead it's bankrupting the country. Expect them to notice this at the last minute and simply gut both of them. A friend of mine with terminal cancer already(2 months) owes over $26,000 and she has insurance. You think it's bad for your Dad, wait until you and I are old.

There is help available if he's extremely poor-no income besides SS and no savings.

I agree that the elderly should come way before illegals and unwed mothers of 6 - but the government does provide way for you to live comfortably in retirement - INVEST.
You cannto count on the government to provide for you and you must save for your retirement. Its a simple plan really - put money in (tax free or tax deffered) and that money will grow and you will not have to rely on the government.
Due to the baby boomers coming to retirement age, poor handling of social security money (suprise suprise) by the government, and heathcare/life expectancy improving - the age has been raised. But it is so easy to self ensure (yes ensure) yourself a good retirement. Hell, an average car payment invested from 25-65 becomes about 4.4million.

The governemnt is not supposed to take care of us. Our country provides plenty of opportunity to provide for yourself. There is no garantee of life, liberty, and a comfortable retirement funded by the government.

Hey, turn off your caps lock. There is a plan for the elderly, it's called social security and medicare. It pays out more to your father than he ever put into it, which is why it won't still be there when I'm elderly. Still, I kick down for him every week from my check. The government certainly doesn't ignore the elderly, they're the largest and most active voter block in any constituency of the nation. AARP wields more political power than the oil companies.

Why are you waiting for the government to take care of your father? He's your family, stop sweeping him under the rug of society, and take care of him yourself!

Ah no need to shout, but I can definetly identify with your sentiments. It is horrible how people who lived through one of the most difficult eras of the twentieth century are being ignored. I think that the elderly of America need an independent group of advocates to really stand up for them and help them with things, from big to small.
I think it's the sad mindstate of the world today, that unless you are considered productive you are useless and not worth time, money, effort, etc. It's very sad, and something should be done about it. We all are going to get old eventually, don't people see that?

Their wasting money buying votes. This is a reason why social security needed to be redone. By the time many of us get there it won't be around. They spend the extra money that we pay to SS on stupid programs for the lazy .

Our elderly are going to destroy our economy within 40 years -- they require an extreme amount of money to keep living in old folks homes, and they contribute NOTHING to society WHATSOEVER. I plan on dying before I become a burdern on society, for I do not wish to burden the nation with my unnecessary presence. I would suggest euthanasia for willing elderly patients, but that's still too radical ;)
