People with Down syndrome may have similar characteristics, but they certainly don't all look alike. That's like saying all black people look alike, or all asians look alike. Nope...they may have similarities, but each person is an individual and has their own traits and characteristics...and they actually tend to look more like their family members than each other. My son has Down syndrome and doesn't really look like any of his friends who also have Down syndrome.
I agree with what Julie said...you have to look a little deeper.
Oh, and to correct one person's answer...people with Down syndrome are not missing a 21st chromosome, they have an extra one.

nope the syndrome is a genetic disease that alongside with the psychological disabilities comes with a generalized actual look. the down grew to become eyes and a few different facial characteristics make all of them look comparable. they do no longer look to be all proper to any extent further than a customary guy or woman is regarding a random guy or woman. no longer all brown eyed persons are proper.

I beg to differ!...do you look like your neighbor? sure people with down syndrome may have common characteristics such as almond shaped eyes, broader nose, ears that are lower set on the head etc. but they are people too and inherit the physical features of their parents and family as well. and believe me not all of these characteristics need to be present either to be diagnosed with down syndrome. I guess so many people are just used to classifying the person by the diagnosis rather than seeing the person underneath, so in that respect they all look alike...have you ever really looked at a person with down syndrome and really seen them? My son looks not like a down syndrome kid, but rather like himself he is as unique as you and I in his looks.

because down syndrome is caused by a genetic abnormality. It is coded into the dna and this "error"(actually an added chromosome) is the same in all people with downsyndrome. this causes differences in physical features such as wider set eyes and increased flexibility.

Well, people have already answered your question...but just in case you want to know...
(this is not to slight any race...)
Ever wondered why people with Down's syndrome are called Mongoloids? (though now it's considered a politically incorrect term, not to mention a very derogative term) it's because their facial features resemble that of a person from Mongolia.

They look similar but not alike. It's like asking why all women look alike. They have things in common but they hardly look the same.

all down syndrome people are missing their 21st cromosone
this causes the similarity in their looks.
I may have mis-spelled cromosone.
