My ear hurts when I push on the "pinna" (see link for a diagram), and it feels slightly swollen, and someone said that it looked red on the inside. It hurts to clean my ears too. Sometimes it hurts even when I don't push it. And sometimes it doesn't hurt or it hurts very little when I do push it. And it hurts to rest my head on that side when I lay down.
Why is this happening? What should I do (see doctor, wait a while, etc.)?

You may have an ear infection. If there is enough pain to stop you lying on that side, I'd visit a physician.
