Two of my family members (my younger brother and my dad) are sick with high temps and uncomfortable stomahcs. My mom and my other brother are not sick and neither am I. I am going somewhere for the weekend, and I really don't want to get sick and have to miss it. I've been looking forward to it for quite a while.

What are some ways I can help to prevent getting sick? I know the obvious- washing hands constantly and using Clorox or other disinfecting wipes on light switches and door handles... But what are other ways to help me stay healthy? I know there's no 100% effective way, but any tips you have I would be VERY grateful for!! Thanks for any help you can give!

make sure you take a multivitamin and get plenty of Vit. C.

Water is a good detox to the body....so drink up.

wearing a medical mask works too, but you may get some weird looks.. =o)

Well, the obvious way to avoid getting sick is to avoid the sick folks (i.e. go stay with someone else for a while or something).

If you can't do that, then as other folks have said, hygiene is the key. I would add, though, that handwashing is of utmost importance not just for you, but also for the sick people in the house. They should wash their hands often--especially after wiping their nose, coughing/sneezing into their hands, and after going to the bathroom (if this is a stomach bug-type illness). If they will do this, there will be less stuff in the house that gets the germs on it.
Also, you should especially make sure to wash your hands before eating, touching your face/mouth/eyes/nose with your hands.

None of the vitamin-type remedies have ever really been shown to help this type of thing for sure, but it doesn't hurt to take vitamins.

Go to the health food or whole or natural food store and ask them for packets of vitamin C you can mix in water and drink. At this time of the year they usually keep them right by the checkout. You can find one that will give you some protection against illness. My Mom and sister were really ill over the weekend, and so I drank two packets of Emergen-C. So far I'm not sick but one other family member became ill. Get a bottle of hand sanitizer for a dollar and use it about every hour. Best of luck to you!!

Wash your hands frequently, take your vitamins, get plenty of rest and wash all towels, sheets, etc. they use immediately. Not a guarantee but these are the basics.

Take airborn and vitamin c. Seriously. Do you have an air sanitizer at home? If so set it up.

Make some soup, it really works. Chock full of so many essential vitamins.

HANDWASHING! HANDWASHING! HANDWASHING!
I promise...and a little lysol wouldnt hurt, but wash your hands after every contact with them or their things or use alcohol gel in between washings.
