I was interested in getting a dress made for an uncoming event. I was looking at vintage dress patterns (the 50's style party dress). However these patterns aren't available in a large array of sizes. I was wondering if it was possible for an experienced seamstress to alter these patterns to fit me?

Yes, a seamstress or tailor can "grade" the pattern to a new size, or even make a fresh pattern of that style. A professional will know how to re-slope the neck and sleeves, and change the angle of darts, plus other things that change when the size changes. It will be expensive, but if you plan to wear it more than once, you may want to spend extra to get exactly what you want. Being creative and individual isn't always cheap!

If you can't get a seamstress to alter the pattern, then I would suggest Vintage Vogue patterns, which are based on classic patterns but come in the modern array of sizes.

i'll start with some questions: what length did the shop attempt to order for you? are you a length 0 in wedding ceremony attire or length 0 in "wide-spread" branch shop clothing? I ask because of fact it could't be as drastic a metamorphosis as you think of - - my sister-in-regulation is a 0 in street clothing. Her wedding ceremony gown became a 6 because of fact wedding ceremony attire are many times sized plenty smaller than street clothing. So if the gown in question is marked a 12 and you're a 0 in street clothing you're probably a bigger length in wedding ceremony attire so it could be taking it from a 12 to a 6 or 4 in wedding ceremony attire. i could be curious regarding the quantity of lace and beading which you point out it has, and can want a seamstresses opinion formerly paying for the gown.

Any experienced seamstress should be able to help you. Just make sure to get the closest size to yours
