First of all, I disagree with those who say you cannot get over the love of yourt life. you can but it takes time and counseling. If I can get over a 28 year relationship to the "love of my life" then you can,. too.
My philosophy is that people do, indeed, have more than one soulmate. I'm with her now, and the only way I ever think about my previous "love" is as my daughter's mom. There's no feelings at all. None. Nada.
You need at least 6 months for every year you spent in your long relationship to fully get over it. Those who haven't gotten over theirs did not get the kind of pressional help that I did and do the hard work required too.
The short answer is to get some counseling because it is next to impossible to do it on your own.

If this is the love of your life you can't get over it fast if ever. It might fade but will never totally go away. Sorry.

you do not have to get over your "love of my life". you just have to learn to accept that he/she is no longer with you and has her own life to live. if you really love a person, you have to let her go if that is what makes her happy. just keep the good memories in your heart, let these memories heal the hurt that you feel from the separation, be happy for the "love of your life" and wish her well for a life without you and most importantly, learn to forgive her for whatever pain this separation gave you. then, move on. have a life...

You can't... trust me. When my five year relationship ended, I prayed to forget him. It didn't happen. It took over a year for me to stop hoping we would get back together. Like the saying goes, "time heals all wounds" and it will take time to get over the love of your life. Concentrate on you... hang out with friends... and eventually you'll be able to move on and find someone new.

If they were truly the love of your life then you will never get over them. I was stupid and broke up with someone in Jan of 1983 and still regret it to this day.

the truth is.... you never really "get over" the love of your life. You may move on with your life but true love never goes away if it was meant to be...it will be...

It takes time, but keeping busy helps. Putting your focus on other things and other people will help you over the worse times.
