Press select. It should say "Return to game" and "Save and Quit"

You have to press A, B, START, & SELECT at the same time. You'll see the options SAVE AND QUIT & CANCEL. Since they don't have a save and continue option you end up back at the file select menu though. When you start again you'll end up at the last door you came out of.
