Slug control
Slugs are attracted to the odors given off by the yeast fermentation process. The most popular bait has been beer. However, not all beers are created equal. In 1987, a study at Colorado State University Entomology Professor Whitney found that Kingsbury Malt®, Michelob®, and Budweiser® attracted slugs far better than other brands. Can’t sacrifice the beer? Try a mixture of 1 tablespoon (T) yeast, 1 T flour, 1 T sugar, and 1 cup water. The beer will need to be replaced at least once a week or more as it looses its potency or becomes diluted by rain.

Fungus - Blackspot control
Modified Cornell Formula: Mix into one gallon of water, in the order listed:
2 tbsp. of ultrafine horticultural oil (such as Sunspray™ oil)
1 heaping tbsp. of baking soda
1 tbsp. of fish oil/seaweed emulsion
3-5 drops of Superthrive®
1 tbsp. of mild dishwashing soap (such as Palmolive green -- but see note below)
[Note: Labels on newer containers of Sunspray™ oil indicate that it now contains an emulsifier. In that case, the dishwashing soap can be omitted.]

Mix well and spray with a pump-up sprayer late in the evening, after first watering your roses thoroughly and spraying them with the hose to scare off some, most, or all of the beneficial insects.
DON'T ADD VINEGAR. NEVER USE ANY TYPE OF FISH OIL/SEAWEED PRODUCT CONTAINING SULFUR WITH A HORTICULTURAL OIL SPRAY. AND NEVER MIX A CHLOROTHALONIL FUNGICIDE (e.g. Daconil™ or Fung-onil™) WITH HORTICULTURAL OIL OR USE THEM ON ANY PLANT WITHIN 10 DAYS OF EACH OTHER.
For black spot control, it is important that you spray all of the plant's wood, as well as the foliage. It has been found that the black spot spores reside in lesions in the canes and that they attack, not only the foliage, but also the canes and prickles.

Milk for Mildew
Milk with its' natural enzymes and simple sugar structures can be used to combat various mildews on cucumber, asters, tomato, squash and zinnia foliage. This works by changing the pH on the surface of the leaves, so they are less susceptible to mildew. Use a 50/50 mixture of milk and water. Thoroughly spray plants every 3 to 4 days at first sign of mildews or use weekly as a preventative measure.
Milk can also be mixed at a rate of 2 ounces milk to 18 ounces of water and used as a spray every 7 to 10 days to treat mosaic disease on cucumber, tomato and lettuce.
Dried milk works and is cheaper than fresh. For roses spray milk at 1:7 once a week.
To make: Mix 1/2 teaspoon of antitranspirant (like Cloudcover, Wiltpruf etc.) with 2 cups of milk, and 1 gallon of water. Spray plants. Clean out your sprayer when done and flush with fresh water.

Bug control
Alcohol SpraysUse for aphids, mealybugs, scale, thrips and whitefly control. Mix ? cup Isopropyl alcohol (70%) with 1 cup water and spray on leaves and pests. Alcohol can burn the leaves of certain plants. African Violets and Apple trees are sensitive to alcohol sprays. Test a few leaves on your plant before you spray the whole plant.

From Master Gardener Jerry Baker's Files "The Master's" All Purpose Fertilizer
* 1 can beer
* 1 can cola (any kind, NOT diet)
* 1 box or cup apple juice
* 1 cup lemon scented liquid soap
* 1 cup ammonia
* 1 cup liquid lawn fertilizer
Mix together all ingredients. If you buy liquid lawn fertilizer with a hose sprayer attachment, you can use the attachment with any 1 liter bottle to make a 50 gallon sprayer. Spray your lawn and garden with the above mixture every 3 weeks, early in the day.
For houseplants, mix 4 shot glasses of the above mixture to 1 gallon of water and add 1/4 tsp knox gelatin.

I saw this show on TV last year on natural pest control. They put onions, garlic, chili peppers, hot spices and dish detergent in a blender. Then they drained the liquid part and discarded the chunks. They got this thick liquid that they put in a spray bottle. They sprayed it on the plants and veggies. (The dish detergent is suppose to make the liquid thicker and also if it rains a little it will not wash off that easy.)

I will try it this year because I have the same problem. I don't want to use anything poisonous. I have a veggie garden, a baby and my neighbors' kids running around my yard.

Good luck!

Try sprinkling some peppermint oil (not extract), this can be purchased at a drugstore. Many garden pests hate the scent of peppermint oil. Also, when planting mix some peppermint plants, chives and asparagus in. Those aren't favorites of pests. :)

Well im not sure what kind of animals youre having, but i have a cool trick for deer. Set up a single strand of fishing line on stakes so the line is about 2-4 inches off the ground. go around the peremiter of the garden. The deer dont see it, so when theyre walking and they touch it with their feet, they will FREAK and run off.

I AM A PROFESSIONAL PEST TECHNICIAN

Some quick tips for ant control:
1. Poor some bleach around the perimeter of your house as well as along the base of any trees that touch the house. This destroys the pheremone trail that the ant are following to food.

2. When cleaning use LYSOL the more lysol you use the better because it destroys any residue of sugars left behind after a regular wipe down of kitchen counters.

3. In the winter months the ants and looking for proteins and in the summer they are looking for sugars. Make sure you seal up both to prevent encouraging them to persist.

4. If you have a pest control company come out ask them to spray with what is called a "micro-encapsulated eco product" pesticide. It is a long lasting residual effect pesticide that will protect your house for 45-60 days after application and is safe for the environment as well as your garden.

5.Also when you call a pest control company ask for a "GENERAL PEST TREATMENT" not an ant treatment. It cost about $10 more and they will spray your eaves, in all of your vents leading to your subarea, around the perimeter of the house, on your drive way, the base of trees, and on your walkway.

6. Ants are also deterred by a soapy formulation. If you spray some soapy water on your plants it will keep ant from them as well as protect your plants from aphids in the summer.

Animal control:

If you are talking about gophers, moles, or voles, there are only 3 ways to take care of them: trapping, fright technique or baiting.
Trapping: without getting into to many details- it kills them.
Fright technique: Go to a hunting store and purchase cougar, or wolf urine ( know it sounds disgusting) apply it to the ground surrounding your garden. This will scare the critters away.
Baiting: They eat the bait and they die. (Again with no details)

If you are talking about racoons and skunks you need to purchase what is called a hava hart trap from home depot and bait it with trail mix and peanut butter.

It all depends on the type of bugs. For slugs put down a small saucer of beer or salt. For some insects, planting marigolds keeps them away.

As far as bugs go, onions are a good deterrent, as are Marigolds and Nasturtiums. "Critters" (like rabbits and moles) are tougher, but you might try one of those fake owls. They actually do work in some cases. (Owls are a predator of small rodent-like creatures, including rabbits, so they tend to scare them off)
