Depends are the bed bugs paying rent?

If they were there prior to you signing your tenancy, and moving in , then it is your landlords responsibility to get rid of the infestation, as long as you havent lived in the premises for years before, then the infestation cant be caused by you.

If you have been a tenant for a long time, then I believe it's probably your responsibility.

It would be different if the infestation consisted of mice .etc , because then no matter how long your length of tenancy, the responsibility would always be the landlords.

With regards to the bed bugs, the first things to go would have to be your mattress and pillows and duvet, blankets etc they would need to be replaced,

If for some reason you cannot replace everything , the mattress will need to be rigorously hoovered, then sprayed with professional spray. then hoovered again. I suppose you could put duvet etc on a hot wash.

But I would really try to replace everything, because there is no guarantee that you could kill them all, unless you got the professionals in, or started again from scratch. buying new mattress and bedding.

then all that is left is for the carpets to be treated.

good luck hope you have a reasonable landlord

If you caused it, you should fix it, but i know how it is in apartments: If you have a filthy neighbor, roaches will travel to adjacened apartments and infest there also! If you keep your place clean and know for sure, you didnt cause it, call your landlord and tell them theres bugs and not caused by you.

If you did cause them, and are infested, you will have to call the landlord if you dont want to pay for the bug man to come out, and also, theres a chance you may be evicted if the landlord comes out to your place and sees it filthy, bugs everywhere etc.

If the bugs were there upon your moving in, it is the landlord's responsibility. But, if you caused the infestation you really should be the one to take care of it.
