well what give the flesh life is blood therefore life doesn't begin until the egg is 18 days old and infused with blood (or is it weeks? i don't remember sorry!!)
what gives the heart a soul is the same. i think that when the baby gets a soul is when the blood comes because life isn't a life if you have no soul, you're more like the undead you know?
but that's just my opinion, i'm not a religious person so don't bash me with god and buddha and shiva!!! lol

The origin of the soul has been a controversial question in Christian history. Two points of view may be distinguished: creationism, which posits that God creates each individual soul in a special act of creation (at the time of conception according to some or that of birth according to others), and traducianism, which suggests that the parents in begetting the child beget the soul too. The creationist principle has been generally held sway in Christianity.

The Unabridged dictionary.com website defines “Soul” as the spiritual part of humans regarded in its moral aspect, or as believed to survive death and be subject to happiness or misery in a life to come: arguing the immortality of the soul.

In approximately the middle of the pregnancy the incarnation of the soul into the children's body occurs. Normally at this time also the mother, if sensible enough, can feel more clearly the presence of the soul which incarnated.
I felt this myself very clear and had also a beautiful dream at this time, in which my son introduced himself. This dream was so special and many things which happened later had a relation to what this dream expressed. He even looks more and more like the man in this dream. (He is only 8)
Why the soul only can incarnate in the middle of the pregnancy is due to the readiness of the little body and the vibrations it radiates so to be able to hold a human soul attached to it.

This is strictly a religious question in that there has to be a soul for it to enter a body. This is a religious concept.

Now assuming that there is a soul, different religions specify when this happens (and for them it is used to determine if abortion is legal or a murder). Catholics and Baptists say it is at conception. Other faiths pick different times.

Anyone who picks a particular time is of a certain religious persuasion

life is energy, and as you grow so does your energy. think about it that way, you won't feel so bad. not a soul like it's specific, energy never is destroyed so we're all alive somewhere forever as something or someone else. i guess your energy/sub-consciousness is your soul and it gets transformed sometimes called reincarnation.
I'm not reading it over, so i don't know if it makes sense.

Since nobody, so far, has proved the existence of a soul, it would be speculation or religious beliefs that answer this question.
