I used to get one and threepence and my parents also put one and threepence in a tin as savings for me each week.
I used to buy black jacks (chewy sweets), 2oz of sherbet lemons and a few other penny sweets.

threepence is UK 'old money' and it was pronounced thrupence. I got one and threepence....the one is a shilling (12 pennies)

I never "got" pocket money. But by 11, I earned $15 a week
I always peeled $2 from the top, (it was the 70's, I blew it on junk food, movies, surfboards & MAD magazine) saved the rest. My brothers & I started a lawn company by the time I was 13. Sold my share when I joined the Corps, for a healthy sum!

I started out with a dime and then I got a quarter and then 50 cents. I could spend 90% of this money any way I wanted, but I was required to put 10% in the Sunday School offering each Sunday. I mostly bought gum. When I was in the sixth grade, I started getting a dollar a week, but I had to buy my own shoes out of this money, which wasn't so hard back then (1969!)

im going to be 44 in a couple months when i was 12 i got 3 dollars a week i bought cigarettes weed and beer. then i dropped out of school and got a crappy job and lived like crap for the next 20 years......... so stay in school kids dont drink or do drugs.... or smoke cigarretes

Well I got a job from the age of 11 onward so I made my own pocket money! :~)
First thing I bought was a bike to ride to school, and I only bought lunch with it really...saved the rest for my first car--Grand Torino Sport....Starsky and Hutch move over...mine had a yellow lightning bolt! LOL

I never got pocket money from my parents, I had chore to do and I got payed $5 a week for them. I was a car modle builder and a hotwheels collector. so that was where the money went.

spent it going to the movie on Saturday night that cost me 50 cents and Sugar Babies and had left over change for Hot Tamales (candy) on Wednesdays after school
