Usually no. A simple "thank you" is decent enough.

If thank you is a compliment then yea. And only a thank you. I don't like sucking up or feeling obligated.

i have a hard time taking compliments
i am still learning with my honey
i try to off shoot it or say something like naaa it just covers my baby pooch better then the other one or something like that
he would get mad at me and just tell me to say ty without any smart butt comment afterward i also blush when someone tells me i look good

Maybe not obligated so much as... occured to me to add...
Everyone has something to compliment.. even if its their shoes.
(it's fun throwing stuff out to strangers too... "I like that shirt"... or "what a great smile"... ech, that's how I get my kicks).

you can always be like my 5 year old and just say i know and walk away.........although i usually thank you....but no i don't think that i need to give one back

no, in fact, as far as etiquette goes, i think a mere thank you is all that's required. does help to sound sincere tho.
