If driven under light load conditions a turbocharger will use less gas. You will save even more gas if you switch to the best non-leaded fuel you can find.

Reason: All cars produced in the past 15 yrs. have a device called a knock sensor which electronically retards the the ignition spark advance if the motor senses a ping or spark knock. When the spark advance is decreased by the knock sensor power and economy suffer. This is extremely important in a turbo charged gasoline engine. There is no upper cylinder lubrication as diesels have. Combustion temperatures exceed diesels by 200 - 300 degrees. High octane fuel protects the motor and keep combustion temps lower.

If you do not mind feeding the engine more expensive fuel I'd go for it.

It really depends on how you drive the car. A smaller engine with a turbo will have slightly better gas mileage if you're just putting around town. If you're on the gas they wont be all that different though.

With a turbo, you only need more fuel as the boost comes in. Before that, they're basically a lower displacement engine that is using less fuel.

yes, turbos are more fuel efficient that normally aspirated
( NA ) engines. obvoiusly since you are pumping gas into 6 and not 8 cylinders you will save gas mileage. turbos give the most fuel efficient bang for your buck. example, a Subaru WRX STI is a turbocharged inline 4 cylinder engine which produces horsepower numbers similar to that of a NA corvette with a V8.

Nope, they will be the same.... and remember it takes gas to make horsepower.... so the more power the more gas you will use.
