Your washer is probably NOT the cause of the problem. Does the shower drain? Does the tub drain? If all is ok except the washer, the problem probably lies between the washer drain and the main drain. Call a plumber and tell him/her you have a drain plug and they need a snake. NO, NOT the slimy kind (but it might be slimy when it comes out...) but a drain snake (they know the drill for sure). It will cost you a few bucks (maybe $100) but is well worth the cleaning and the piece of mind that the waste is going where the waste should go... away from your home.
Good Luck!

USA You did not state if your tub and shower also back up by themselves without help from the washer, so I will assume they do not. Sounds to me that your washer drain, tub drain, and shower drain are branch drains that tie into the same main drain line. There is a partial blockage in the branch drain below the point where the washer, tub and shower connect. What is happening is that the washer drains at high volume (lots of water in a short time). There is a partial blockage in the line downstream from the washer and tub / shower connection. The high volume water cannot quickly get down the pipe due to the partial blockage, so it is backing up into the bathroom. You need to have the blockage removed. I suggest a licensed plumber, or drain cleaner technician. If you are quite handy, a snake is the answer.

It is not your washer is it the main drain. It is partially obstructed, you notice it most with the washer because the washer pumps out a large volume of water when it empties. You need roto-router service to come and clean your main drain.
