Unfortunately, it is the result of abuse of the placard that is done often by others. Many able-bodied pigs brag about borrowing their relative's car so they can park in those places even though nothing is wrong with them. I have also seen mothers issued the placard because their kid broke their arm, even though the kid rides all over the neighborhood on his bicycle using only one arm. I know one person that got one due to a past car accident, and told me he goes on weekend hikes.
I know it is not fair to you if you TRULY have a handicap, but people like I described above make it bad for all.

You have a handicap placard for a reason. If your co-workers resent that, so be it. Speak to our supervisor about the harassment. He or she should explain to them the purpose of handicap placards, AND that all handicapped people do not have visible handicaps.

Explain to them that the State did not just give you the placard on a platter. You really do have a valid disability and you don't see the need to share that info with them.

. Some people, unfortunately, think you have to be visibly handicapped in order to BE handicapped.
Once, I parked in a handicapped space without realizing it. I saw the sign, and some woman really got in my face. She screamed, "I don't look handicapped, why am I shaking my head?" )I was shaking my head because I reailed I made a dumb mistake.
i replied," how would you like to have Parkinson's?" Now, she's all apologetic, and walks away. Now, I don't HAVE parkinson's, I just asked her, "How would she like to have Parkinson's."
I did move my car, but she's shooting off her mouth without knowing the facts.
