I'm 17 and have a septate hymen. It prevents me from wearing tampons. Therefore my activities are limited during that time of the month.

I need to tell my mom so I can get it removed. Im scared she'll get mad I didn't tell her before. How should I go about telling her?

Also, she doesn't like talking about this kind of stuff, so how could I make it less uncomfortable for her?

Thanks for your help!

Tell her when you are alone together.

I personally think she will a) be pleased you felt able to tell her and b) be pleased that you still have a hymen! I'm not joking.

She won't go mad, although she may be a little upset if she thinks it's been a problem and you couldn't tell her before. Just tell her that it hasn't been a problem, but now you would like to have it sorted because you don't want to be limited at that time of the month.

If she is uncomfortable about things like that then maybe ask your doctor to sort out some leaflets or write a letter for her, so rather than have to discuss details with you, you can tell her and she can read it in private.

When you say "that kind of stuff" I am guessing you mean sex, but this is totally unrelated to sex, and is just like having your tonsils sorted, in reality, so if you treat it that way it will probably help her to feel better talking about it too :)

Well, just work up your courage when you two are kind of alone, like doing the dishes or watching TV or something, and tell her. She is your mom, and she is a female, so she'll probably understand. And I don't think she'll get mad; she'll probably know you were nervous about it.

Ask her casually, when you two are alone and doing something, like I said. When you're doing the dishes together, or watching TV and the ads come on or whatever. Just tell your mom "Mom, I have a septat hymen and I want to get it removed." or something like that.

Hope I could help!

you defintely need to talk to her....she will understand. That's what mom's are for! Just put it out there and tell her you have a medical problem that the doc said needs to get fixed.

I agree - this is not a sexual problem, it is a medical problem. You mom should understand. :-)
