A little while ago I read an article about these balls that some people have where daughters pledge their virginity to their fathers. There is a ceremony and the daughter wears a ring that her father gives her. I find this a little strange. I don't think your father owns your virginity. What are your thoughts?

Just reading the question made me feel uncomfortable. I suppose in some very religious families that might be normal, but I think it is very strange indeed. Most people are uncomfortable discussing sex with their parents in any way- I can't imagine doing something like that. I also think it's especially weird as a between father and daughter thing. It sounds wrong, somehow.

Like your self I don't think that women have to do those pledges with their fathers. Especially ladies as younger as eight years historical as they're normally no longer even conscious of what virginity is. Once a tender woman does recognize what she is pledging she need to even be conscious of the enticements so that it will occur and I could query what number of are in a position of maintaining this pledge.

That's kinda gross to be honest. I don't think you need to pledge your virginity to your father!! That's just plain creepy to me. I mean I understand that a father doesn't want their little girl doing the deed with some dude before she gets married, but there's no reason to go to that extreme. Especially making some weirdo ceremony for it?? I don't know, it just doesn't seem right. You're not going to marry your father, so why do the whole ring ceremony thing. Ew.

From the answers I have read I feel like alot of people are taking this the wrong way. It is suppost to show that a girl will respect herself and her body and she is making a promise to her father that she will not just be with "anyone" that comes along or that shows her attention.

It is basicly a sign of Respect and Honour toward their body. When a lady gets married her Father gives her away in the ceremony to the man that she pledges her life to .. so why not pledge to yourself that you will have respect for your body and not just give it to anyone in a cermony is very respectful and honourable if you think about it. Just another opinion..
