I had a biopsy done of my cervix (from the most renowned gynecologist in my area) about 6 months ago due to a false-alarm abnormal pap.
They scrape the cervix like they did for the pap, but you're spread further open than before, and it's much more pressure.
Then, they use an instrument similar to an ear piercing gun that removes a very small cube of tissue of the cervix itself. That hurts a great deal. but only for a second.
Lastly, the gynecologist inserts an instrument actually inside of the cervix itself. This hurts the most. It's feels like the worst PMS cramps that you have ever felt, but much worse. Even though I have a very high pain threshold, I found this the worst part of the biopsy, and my eyes teared up a little bit. Many people say they even scream at this part... but mine wasn't THAT bad.
Afterward, it hurts for about a week or longer, then got better. I had to wear a pad for about 5 days, because of the bleeding. Due to the pain, I couldn't have sex for nearly a month.
It's worth it though. It's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck!

Everyones pain threshold is different
I actually just had a biopsy done today on my cervix and I although uncomfortable I got period like cramps and there was slight pinching when he actually took the samples it definetely was bearable and wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I had no pain afterwards

I had a couple done a few years ago, luckily the abnormalities were going away. No it is not painful, just a little uncomfortable is all. No need to worry.

It will not be painless but it shouldn't be any worse then getting shots....hope that helps...they will put a larger speculum in you and numb the area so you won't feel the biopsy...just the shot and a lot of pressure.

No. Most docs will offer a bit of local anesthesia to numb the pain. It feels like an annoying pressure and is gone within a minute.

From what I've been able to gather from overhearing other people nattering, it depends on the Doctor........... some (usually more experienced ones) are good enough to be able to do it so you hardly even notice, while others may be a little more cackhanded and it'll hurt like a b*tch.

not very painful. I've had a few biopsies (skin and gums) and they're no worse than an injection

I don't think so, and if it would be, they would give you something for the pain. The Doctor and Nurses will be with you (or the patient), they should explain everything step by step.God bless you.

depends on the location of the biopsy, it could even tickle sometimes.

It pinches and it bleeds. I would categorize it as highly uncomfortable with a pinchy pain that is over quickly. Don't be that scared. You'll be ok.
