To add a simpler description to the above (correct) answers:

"The lake that is left where the old river was when the river takes a new shortcut through a corner." They are usually shaped like a "C".

They generally have excellent fishing.

THE LAKE LOOKS LIKE THE LETTER "C" AND IS FORMED WHEN A VERY WIDE MEANDER FROM A RIVER IS CUT OFF TO FORM A LAKE!!!
