i have been wearing them for 10 + years you can buy a box of soft plugs at walmart for 5 bucks they have a noise reduction rating of 33 thats pretty good. At first you will think you cant ride with them but if you will try a few times you will see that it kills the wind noise in your ear and you will be able to hear the motor and the things around you with better clarity. the constant wind in your ear will make you deaf and it will give you a ringing that will get worse

Def wear plugs everytime I get on the bike for more than five minutes. Better quality helmets produce less wind noise also. I can still hear everything I need to with plgs and a full-face on.
Aside from hearing loss, constant wind noise is actually physically draining on your body.

Yes you will get hearing loss from wearing a brain bucket/skullcap or shorty helmet. If an open face or full face is fitted properly you shouldn't get much loss.
I am thinking about wearing ear plugs but like someone else says the diminish of a sense can be dangerous.
I use to wear a full face until I almost got T-Boned because I didn't have full peripheral vision due to the helmet.
For any non bikers or bikers who don't realize the DOT rating on your helmet. Motorcycle DOT ratings says that it will survive a 35 MPH impact. So stick to the back roads and stay off the highways LOL. OR brake real hard before you hit the ground to save your skull! ROFLMAO.

Are you wearing a helmet? If not, I guess you should? If you wear a helmet and still need them, then you need to buy a better quality helmet. There's a reason why they sell $300 helmets, Its the quality (less wind noise, etc). Or you might own a Harley with straight pipes that causes hearing loss to everyone in the general vicinity?

Yeah I wear earplugs when riding, under my helmet even. Not a bad idea.

u'd get a bit of 'noise reduction' wearing a 1/2 shell or full face helmet vs a beanie type. the wind blast can take its toll just as much as loud pipes will. i wear a 1/2 shell, and on long trips and the speed will be at 55 up to 75 mph, i'll also wear ear plugs set so that i can still hear whats goin on around me, but not so 'deaf' as to being unable to hear something coming up on the side.

Earplugs?
Why in the world would you want to diminish ANY of your senses when riding?
Exhaust noise? Fix it.
Wind noise? Slow down to the speed limit!
