Probably because many people pronounce "pigeon" with a "d" sound at the end of the first syllable.
The "d" sound added to "pigeon", may have been at sometime in the past confused with "PIDGIN". Pidgin is a simplified speech used for communication between people with different languages.
Similarly, some pigeons are also used for communication, For example the Carrier pigeon is used to carry messages; especially: Homing pigeon.

You should know the answer to this yourself ! The only thing that seperates the D from the G on the key board is the F. So when u r pissed and type the word "pigeon" u press the D by mistake, u cant be arsed to press the back key so u just press the G key. Simple.

It is a bit bothersome. Pidgeon is not a word in any country. It is a common last name, although. It was a spelling error by the webmaster of that site.

Probably because they know it will annoy someone like you! Similar questions have been posed before, suggesting that people should use the spellchecker. I don't think you should get too upset - it's a bit like texting - anything goes as long as the questions & answers can be understood. Just feel a bit smug & superior if you want.

Lack of education. Its actually surprising how many people cant spell simple words. Another thing that I have noticed a lot is people keep writing then instead of than. I just find it strange that people who have finished school still cant spell.

most people are not really that intelligent and they also may be thinking of words like bridge that have a d in it and sound like pigeon that doesnt have a d

Good point. Indeed there is no D in 'pigeon'. But there is one in 'pidgin'! Get it?
Cheers
(note: one likely origin of the word is 'Pigeon English')

I have found that there is little or no use of the spell check, some of the questions and answers are pure gibberish because people can't spell or they have their pet monkeys do their typing.

because people just spell things how they sound instead of taking the time to get the correct spellings
