Most cities require a business license. You would get that from your city clerk's office. If you want to do business under a different name than just your legal given name (ie, Taylor's Custom Websites), you need to register it with your state. Since you are selling services, not actual physical products, you shouldn't need a sales tax permit, but it wouldn't hurt to check. The city clerk should be able to give you information on what office to go to, or even if you have to at all, when you get the business license.

Aren't you a little young to be starting a bussiness. I mean you are a kid. Also you need a lot of things and you need to know how to 1099 yourself so you can pay taxes. The paperwork in doing so take about three months and costs a lot of money up front. With all the corporate/SOB taxes you are in over your head. You also need to get a Tax ID number and a thousand other things. Try to get through SCHOOL first.

It depends on your local government. Check with the city government where you are and ask about any business licensing. Usually if you have only an online business you don't need any licenses as long as you are paying your income taxes. You pay a business registration fee when you register your business with the county.
