Dell will offer three different size memory modules that can be used in this slot: 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1024 MB.

I work for Dell Technical support :P

The best answer would be for you to go to www.dell.com and click support. However, if that computer is about 3 years old or less, it would likely take the 1gb memory. Since I dont know how many slots your computer has, and I also do not know if you have a single 256 stick or two 128's, I cant tell you if there is room or not. It is likely, however, that you can remove your old 256 and insert the 1gb stick.

The maximum amount of memory your laptop can hold is 1280MB. (The 256MB already there, plus 1,024MB RAM module = 1280MB). The 256MB that your computer currently holds can NOT be removed, therefore a 1GB RAM module (DDR PC2700) can be fitted into the slot provided.

See the link below for confirmation.

The maximum that system can take is 1.25GB, however, one slot is not removable. The most you can buy is a 1GB stick.
