I seem to think it is nasty to use a used washing machine.. Like especially putting your under garments in a used washing machine... Am I stupid or what?? Like what if someone with a nasty disease had used the washing machine before and then when I put my clothes in there would that be gross??? I know the water and soap cleans but still I have a wierd feeling.. please tell me your opinions on this.

Not stupid or paranoid! I kind of think about that stuff too. But if you use bleach in the washer before you wash your stuff in it, then it will kill basically everything that is in there.

The comment about running an empty machine with just bleach is poor. What people don' realize is that the bleach may stay behind inside and ruin your colors, sorry.

Best advice to give you is to add a seperate disinfectant to your clothes. Baking soda, lysol, most of these products recommend laundry usage for disinfecting. Beware of mixing wrong chemicals together though, so read the labels.

Cold water is best for not spreading germs and most diseases I think your thinking of are not spread in this way.
So relax and know your clothing is safe.

Yea, you think a little different than most folks. Isn't a washing machine supposed to clean things, like your dirty under garments. Don't you feel, like most people that after a complete wash cycle than the interior wash tub would be somewhat clean?
Then why is it nasty to use one even in a laundry mat? I guess the old washboard is still around for those who have fetishes about nasty, dirty washing machines. . .

No, you're not stupid. Actually, you have a good reason to be paranoid.

Water and soap doesn't kill all bacteria, only bleach and detergents containing bleach will fully disinfect the washing machine.

I've used public washing machines in apartments, laundromats, etc and haven't caught any diseases. Just read the detergent label and make sure it contains bleach if you're still worried.

Have you ever watched the TV show "Monk" on the USA network? He is an obsessive compulsive, who has fears of things like that. He wipes his hands after touching anything that could possibly have touched dirt. You probably are an obsessive compulsive, but if that's your only problem (washing machines), then you don't have much of a problem. If the phobias go farther than that, you may need professional help.

People have been using laundromats for a very long time. No study, as far as I know, has been done relating using laundromat machines and passing on a disease. However, I would make sure that the machine is clean first.

I wouldn't buy a used washing machine. But I am really crazy about that stuff, I won't get anything used, I just can't do it. But if you're looking for a cheaper washer and dryer you can go to places that have brand new appliances that were just scratched or dented in the delivering process so they are marked down but there is nothing wrong with them but maybe a little scratch.

A dirty griddle at a restaurant can't really be dirty, they heat it up to cook food well over 212*F, so all the Bacteria (germs) are dead, and CAN'T hurt you. A washing machine is the same, Detergents and hot water have passed through it in GREAT volume, it would be a very difficult place for bacteria to grow, with all the detergent AND BLEACH (Bacteria is "ground zero" after THAT, It's been "NUKED", so if you throw "Bleach" in it, and rinse, it's TOTALLY STERILIZED)

I have never known a disease to be contractable. If you were thinking of viruses, they die in the hot water that goes in the washing machine to wash the clothes. Just don't lick the lid, you might get something from that, like a dirty tongue or something!

well it is a washing machine so its gotta be pretty clean and also people do it all the time because when people go to the washers, you know the public ones, people use those like 20 times a day. so ya youre just a little bit paranoid.

The tub is lined with ceramic so it's pretty safe. When you want to clean your washer just fill it with hot water and bleach. Bleach kills all kinds of germs. Then run a rinse so everything you put in it doesn't smell like bleach.
