at the hardware store, why are the closet, staircase, and inside doors/windows so expensive? is there anything special about them?

These items are more expensive because they are newer items and are for people that have more money to spend on these luxury items. If you search through the classifieds at the beginning of each neighborhood, you could probably find what you are looking for for a cheaper price.

There are a few reasons:
1. These items were not introduced into Millsberry until fairly recently. For a long time people had to 'make due' with things like staircases constructed of shelves and such.
2. There was a situation a little over a year ago that put a lot more money into circulation in Millsberry due to an issue. Because of this there are many people who have huge amounts of Millsbucks so offering these items at higher prices helps to take some of those millsbucks back out of circulation and restores a bit of economic balance to the Mills economy.

They're special, because they actually get to GO in your home! I wish they'd lower them, too, but they probably won't. I only have a couple of these itmes in my home, since they're expensive!!

they are newer and are like the real prices in real life!! but yes they r newer!
