Sometimes artists sell a ton of records only to disappear a few years later. In my opinion I think it's better when an artist makes better quality music and has staying power than when someone makes crappy music, sells a ton of records, and then you don't even hear about them anymore.

You notice we remember the artists who have staying power, and their music goes on to influence other's music, whereas the ones who have a brief explosion of popularity are quickly labeled "Pop sensations" and tossed aside when people realize they're not really that special.

Since I think that the best music is produced by people who care about the music itself, and are dedicated to their art, I have much more admiration for those artists with a long and semi-fruitful career than for those who groom their image and music to reflect what is popular at the time.
