I don't know what the most pretty or artistic song is that I've ever heard, but I can name a couple that I think are good.
For modern music, I think 'Good Enough' by Evanescence is a really pretty song, espescially the piano intro. I like the classical piano song 'Prelude in C Sharp Minor'. And one of my personal favorites is Mozart's version of Lacrymosa.

artistic -> bjork has a song called "musicals" it's the arrangement of strings mixed with the deep bassline that makes it amazing.
pretty -> oh and on the sentimental side, the smashing pumpkins have a song called "with every light" also a beautiful tune

Either "Black", by Pearl Jam, or as the other guy said, "Estranged", by Guns N' Roses. Plainly awesome songs.
Though "Patience" (also by Guns N' Roses), is really good, too.

"I am the Walrus" by the Beatles, it may not be pretty in your eyes but its the most artisticly, awesomely awesome random song EVER! that and "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. You should really check those out!
