Sounds like a meniscus, ACL or PCL tear.

You couldve have put in under a lot of stress while playing sports or working out. I've had knee problems before and they made me wear a brace for whenever i ran or played basketball. They have certain exercises that will strengthen your knees without damaging them. You should avoid doing exercises that put too much pressure on your knees like squats, climbing stairs, etc. Your doctor should give you a better answer though. He'll probably take an xray and see whats wrong if theres something wrong inside it.

Maybe you need some anti-inflammatory pills, and some physical therapy. Might be from the change in weather.
