The first three aswers are pretty much correct.
The fourth answer has a serious error in that options on stock stop trading a 3:00 Central Time (4:00 Eastern Time) on the third Friday of the month, not 3:15. Some other options, such as index options, keep trading a few minutes longer, but not options on stock.
It was mentioned that you can sell it if you can find a buyer, which is correct, but I would like to expand on that a lttltle. You can be sure there will be a buyer if the option is in the money, but for an out of the money option there may not be. The closer you get to exiration, the closer an out of the money option needs to be to the strike price for there to be any buyers.

you can sell you options at any time. Keep in mind otion premiums are based on 2 areas 1. strike price. The closer the strike price is to where the underlying stock is trading the higher the premium will be. On the opposite side of the spectrum the farther away the strike price is from the under lying stock the cheap the premium will be. 2. Intrinsic time value. The more time you have until the option expires, which is the 3rd Friday of every month, the higher the option premium will be. The shorter the time frame the less expensive the premium will be. With only 15 days you may find it hard to find a trader willing to buy the options your trying to sell with such a short time frame. Best wishes!

The question doesn't provide full information. So let us assume that it is August now and you bought Sept. IBM 184 at $4 and the price now is 180. Suppose if the price rise to 188 before the third week of September then you can sell it for a profit of 4 dollars.
Suppose it rise to only 184 before expiry then you might not get a ask for 4 and it won't be profitable to sell for loosing your investment.

You can sell the options at any time before expiration. Try to avoid trading on expiration day. Way too much craziness going on for most of us amateurs.
