For the next time, visit Florianopolis, Camboriu, beatifull beachs, Salvador,Maceió,Recife,Fortaleza, Foz do Iguaçu, Pantanal do Mato Grosso, São Luiz etc.
In fact,Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, there are many risks, but in others places, no problem.
Bazil it s a big country with different peoples, and cultures.

Brazil is a giant country and there is a lot of beautiful places to visit. Unfortunately, in cities like Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Vitória, Recife there is the problem of violence. In Rio de Janeiro, the situation is out of control, but I believe that in few years Brazil will solve this problem (there is a lake of investments in security and education for poor communities). On the other hand, I lived 7 years in Sao Paulo and I never saw anything wrong. I recommend the south of the country. Florianopolis is a paradise, with a DHI higher than 0,85. The states in the northeast are wonderful and there is a low rate of crime. Brasília is very interesting. Iguaçu Falls are wonderful, and there is few crimes in the state of Parana. The most dangerous cities for tourists are Recife, Vitoria and Rio de Janeiro.
NEVER enter inside a shuntytown!!!! NEVER walk in the streets using gold, expensive jewels etc (japanese go to Rio and show thousands of dollars for people, NEVER DO THAT in a country where there is people living in shuntytowns)

I don't think you should go to Rio alone. You should check out beaches up north, in the state of Bahia, Rio Grande do Norte and Ceara. Also another great option is to go south to Florianopolis. It has some of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil and it is pretty safe compared to Rio and Sao Paulo.
Rio beaches are nice, but not as nice as some of the other beaches in Brazil. Only tourists and locals go to Rio. Real Brazilians go north or south.

I would recommend any beach! Use your common sense, don't go to the beaches that are right in front of a favela- the huge poor cities that are obviously huge and poor and somewhat dangerous. I found Rio to be perfectly safe, try to blend in as best you can, if you are obviously a tourist than you are an obvious target. Stay where there are a lot of people, don't walk at night alone, be friendly and aware of your surroundings, you shouldn't have any problems, HAVE FUN! enjoy the culture, it is unbelievably amazing

Beaches? Besides the ones of Northeast Brazil like Fortaleza, Natal, Bahia (places like Ilha de Comandatuba and Costa do Sauipe are very-very good), etc, there are some great beaches in Sao Paulo. The north coast beaches are better and safer I think... the beaches are pretty good there and there's not THAT many people like on the south coast of Sao Paulo. I personally love it.

There are so many, but here's one that not many other people will suggest: Praia do Rosa in Santa Catarina. Lots of nice pousadas within walking distance of the beach. Surfing lessons. Whale watching in season.
Another interesting option would be the Prainha do Canto Verde, a fishing village in Ceará with a neat community tourism project.

Sure Rio is the most violent city in Brasil. The next time go northwest (Salvador, Porto Seguro, Natal, Recife, Fortaleza, Fernando de Noronha ) or south (Santa Catarina, Ilha do mel, Rio grande do sul) you are gonna enjoy and dont worry is really safe!

hi, i'm Brazilian and sure it rather is risky, yet... in case you bypass to Copacabana, RJ there are a number of police there because of the fact it rather is a great region for vacationers and t.v stars. there will be distinctive brazilian females there too, i think of this is the main severe centred coastline with pleasing females. I used to bypass there with my acquaintances and all, you in elementary terms might desire to be watchful, somewhat than which you're fantastic. never, I suggested never bypass to a favela, i don't be attentive to why yet foreigners take excursion in it with classes. i'm telling you, do no longer bypass in case you desire to stay. the only explanation why people bypass in there is with the help of the fact they supply money to the drug sellers or the top of the excellent factor. Please do no longer threat your life. yet somewhat than that, you're ok, and you will like it, yet l might merely be greater watchful than you're right here in the States. you will adore the folk, they're rather great. My husband is american and we met in the direction of the internet, and this is been a blessing. Take care and be somewhat careful in case you bypass. additionally, pay attention of the little little ones ( the streets ones), they might come with the help of and get your wallet or handbag without notice. a number of them carry weapons, so do no longer even combat lower back. Even 8 12 months old young little ones could have weapons, so pay attention.
