I was overweight before I got pregnant and my OBGYN is this tiny thin waif-like creature. She told me I should only gain 15 lbs throughout the course of my pregnancy. I am at 5 mos already and have gained 19 lbs. My appointment is tomorrow and I know I'll get some lecture. This is my first pregnancy. Are all the OBGYN's like this? I love listening to baby's heartbeat, but hate the rest of the appointment because of this DR. My mom says the doc is being ridiculas and that I should at least expect to gain between 25-35 lbs. Any thoughts?

OMG! First get a doctor you like. This woman is going to be pulling a 7 pound kid out of your vagina. You better like her! Second, I am on my 5th month too and I have gained about 21 pounds. My doctor said 24 pounds is what I should aim for but everyone is different and I shouldn't worry unless I hit 50+ pounds. So yeah, get a different doc!

Too much weight gain during pregnancy is dangerous for you and your baby. If you were not overweight, 25-35 lbs would be a normal amount to gain. You should start a mild exercise routine to help keep the excess weight down. Try walking for 20-30 minutes a day every day. Also, talk to your doctor about appropriate diet during pregnancy. You do not have to increase your caloric intake by mass amounts! If you watch what you eat and keep yourself moving you should be able to have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. Good luck!

sweetie they say only 15 because that is what the baby and the other stuff usually is, so they don't want you to gain even 1 pound.I suggest that if the apt. is that uncomfortable for you then you should really tell her that she is hurting your feelings, that you got what she said but do not need to be upset like this each time you have to see her. Or could you find another Dr that would not do this to you.I know what you are going through i was the same way ( heavy before pregnancy) but thank the good Lord i had a sweet Dr who told me only to gain 15- 20 pounds for the entire time and he never harped on me any other time. I wish you the best and good luck

Everyone gains weight differently. A long time ago doctors thought that women should only can 15lbs but know days even 40lbs isn't abnormal. Try and not let her stress you out it's not good for you or the baby. And if you are stressing your appointments that much I would change doctors. Having a baby (especially your first) should be fun and exciting!!! I do have a couple of friends that are over weight and when they got pregnant the doctors told them that they shouldn't gain quite as much weight also. But there doctors didn't give them a really hard time about it. Congrats and God bless!!

I was told to gain between 25 and 35. My cousin is a little overweight and she only gained 8 pounds during her last pregnancy. She did this on purpose (she is not very smart). The baby was born early and was malnutritioned. Its better to gain more than not enough.

Eat what you want! Not all ob's are like that! I too am heavy, and 6.5 months along. I do what I want! My baby is bigger than he's suppose to be, neither of my other 2 were, but this ob refuses to consider an early delivery. I to love hearing the heatbeat, but always hate the rest. I want to switch ob's but there are few in my area to choose from. Sure wish my past ob's were still delivering babies. Either way eat what you want, enjoy your pregnancy as this is your first, no 2 are EVER alike, so treat each as a treasure. Don't let your Dr. stress you cuz it will stress your baby too. Sit back and relax and enjoy what remains! Congrats, and good luck!

Well, I was also slightly overweight when I got pregnant.

The average weight gain during pregnancy is 25-35 pounds. My doctor said that being overweight, I should probably only gain about 25 pounds. But everyone is different.

As long as you are eating well and taking care of yourself, don't stress too much about weight gain. My friend just had her baby and gained 60 pounds during her pregnancy. Don't feel bad. Just take care of yourself, and worry about your weight AFTER you have your baby. Enjoy your pregnancy!

When I was pregnant the doctor told me the same thing. I was a small girl (110) and I gained about 40 pounds before I actually had my daughter. I dreaded going to the doctors and getting on that scale. Depending on how much you weight depends on how much weight they hope you to gain. The more you gain the more stress you put on your body and the baby. Think about how much stress your body is already going through. I wouldnt worry about it to much. Just take it easy and think about the beautiful baby you'll have in 4 months =0)

an significant question to ask the single scientific professional may be approximately how deliveries are dealt with. In a distinctive-scientific professional prepare, the medical doctors rotate being on duty for deliveries -- does the single scientific professional handle each and every delivery? How does she stability workplace hours and deliveries? What if 2 of her sufferers supply on the comparable time? If she's up all evening handing over a infant the evening till now your appointment, is she going to have the skill to supply you high quality interest? i may be apprehensive some single-scientific professional prepare for those (and different) motives. I even have had 2 pregnancies -- the two severe-threat -- so my circumstances are a splash distinctive (weekly appointments, hospitalizations, scheduled deliveries, etc), yet i might recommend a multi-scientific professional prepare. If seeing one single scientific professional is significant to you, you are able to request the comparable scientific professional for the final public of your appointments, and merely determine you meet the others a minimum of as quickly as incase you ultimately finally end up going into labor while they're on call.... sturdy success!
