I read recently in the news about a parrot who can communicate. That is, not just repeat things but make comments appropriate to situations and respond appropritely to people.

One way to think about intelligence is that it's all relative. One definition of intelligence is how much a person or animal is capable of mentally. A human is intelligent compared to an animal. Dolphins are intelligent compared to most other animals.

Defining Intelligence, is like defining Freedom, whats intellect to one person isn't to another...

Artificial Intelligence is just programs which tell something to react in a certain way if an event happens. Parrots just imitate, but they must have some sort of intellect to decide/ know to imitate. Alsatians have an IQ of 70 (I think), and that's more than a lot of humans. So if dogs don't have it then a lot of humans don't either.

So if its just IQ which rates intellect, then it means artificial intelligence isn't intelligent as its the human which will have programmed it to get a higher score?

This is making my brain hurt =(

Dogs can be. They definately have a memory of how people treated them & they dream. No experience with dolphins. Birds are only able to repeat. So do mocking birds and they are not domesticated. All domestic animals have a sense of what their people expect from them.

the..thing that tells if you're smart and knowledgable about stuff. thats my definition, which probably shows how intelligence i have.

someone told me that if a dog had a high IQ they could talk in our language. im not sure but i'd say they're smart than some humans anyways =)
