BeeBeee, my arguement is that it is a hideous man made structure stuck like a spare part on one of the most awe-inspiring natural wonders of the world.
As you quite rightly point out, tours are already available, so why stick a structure on there that does the job of the tours! Its all about making money.

at least the way it's been designed it sort of blends in, in terms of the colour and building style they used.

And the Grand Canyon is so huge that this doesn't ruin the whole thing by far.

It could have been a lot worse and actually I think it will give people a chance to appreciate it in a totally new way.

At the moment people can get various tours etc and they all cost money so I don't really understand your arguement there.
I mean if you complain about this are you also complaining about all tours. If so how are people meant to see it and appreciate this natural beauty? Especially people who want to learn about it?

And I don't think it's hideous but then thats a personal matter of taste

I don't know if I agree with anyone on this. The tribe who put the structure up is desolately poor and this may be the only thing they can do to get any sort of economy. This tribe, unlike many other tribes, does not have the luxury of a casino to gather money.

As for the structure itself, I think the idea is a unique way to see the natural beauty of the Grand Canyon and in a manner not really available to people. It seems to me that it would be very much like the view any bird gets to see or the view you can get if you can afford a helicopter ride over the canyon. I would definitely consider heading to that tribe's community for the structure and the rest of their cultural offerings.

I don't think the skywalk itself is that ugly. The place would be more beautiful without *any* structures; I'm not that well-known in the place, was there a tourist place -building, hotel, restaurant, whatever- there in the first place? If there's *any* structure then at least this is a very interesting one, I would like to go there and walk on it... nicest would be if it were all natural, no structures at all but I guess that wouldn't be feasible with as many tourists that want to visit the Grand Canyon.

Its their land, I guess they can do what they want, but it sure looks stupid and a person can get the same kind of view as that at different places.. the worst thing about it is, it cost $75. to go out on it.. what a rip off..plus the fact that they paid $30 million to have it built..I can't imagine it costing that much....no way...thirty million....if the Indians want to make money as they claim,( because they say they are so remote and have no way to make a decent income) then why didn't they just invest the money in the stock market or something that would give them a fortune with thirty million..

Right now we all think that it is hideous. In couple of years people will be marvelling at it and calling it one of the & Wonders of the World.
I have mixed feelings. If it concentrates the damage done to the canyon by tourists. That has to be an advantage. Also the NativeAmericans deserve to improve their living standards and it would seem to be either that or another casino.
The structure wins hands down with me on that count alone.
However looking at news footage it does seem to be butt ugly!.

i think its really neat. this is a feature that is owned and operated by native americans on whose land it is built on. early americans have taken away practically everything from them, and now you want to deny them this? run some searches on the poverty levels of native americans. profits from attractions like these go into the pockets of the entire tribe, giving them enough money to live their day to day lives and to help build a better future for the tribe as a whole. even if i did think it was ugly, which i don't, i wouldn't complain about it being there because the money from its profits are going back into a community, not into greedy pockets.

At least you can't blame this one on the "white man" it was the tribe that put that up on reservation land at the rim. Trying to attract tourists to the area I guess. Just what the canyon needs, more tourists!
