he led the movement for civil rights (well, he was the appointed leader by the American press) following Gandhi's rules of nonviolence...

Martin Luther King is a hero because of what he did for everyone . He stood up for what he believed in and voiced his opinion no matter what others thought or believed. Also, the speeches he gave such as " I have a dream " changed the lives of many people, especially African American's, all throughout the nation, and it inspired many.

Martin Luther King Jr. is a "hero" because he organized and headed up a movement in the Southern States which sought to bring attention to the injustices being done to Black people in the 50's and 60's. Because of his contribution to American society, Black people, and all minorities for that matter, enjoy a greater amount of freedom under the law.

Because he changed the whole U.S He stood up to something that was wrong.
He showed the world how the U.S should be. Everyone should be created equal, not just people with certain skin colors.
He stood up for what he knew was right and he had the courage to stand up to the whole United States.

martin luther king was more like a visionary and a really nice guy who deserved a nobel prize... i never really saw him as a hero though since i thought heros were like larger than life and stuff

first of all let me tell you something it is people like Martin Luther King that taught me not to tell people how i really feel about them. you need to read his biography and im sure you will never ask that stupid question again. first of all he belived in change through peace and not by physical activity. plus he did everything he could to help better the community as one.

Because he spoke out against the 'norm' of society at that time, in the face of abject discrimination, racism and hatred. he was courageous enough to stand up and say enough is enough even though he was at great personal risk to do so. we all know what happened to him but his words resonated throughout the community and helped the wheels of change start slowly turning
