I have two guppy-related questions:
1. We put a plant floating on top of the water, just in case one of the fish had babies and needed somewhere to hide, and one of my female guppies seems to like it there. lol She's staying in it, just swimming in place. Does she do this just because she feels safer from the other guppies? (There are four other fish with her, only one of them is a female.) Or is she ready to have her babies?? She is pregnant, but she isn't very big yet. Could it be just a really small batch of fry?
2. One of my male guppies looks bloated. Atlantis (that's his name) is even bigger than both of my pregnant guppies! Sometimes he swims really slowly near the bottom of the tank, and he doesn't really look too good..he's kind of pale, and has two red lines near the top of his sides that I don't think were there before. We got him pretty recently, so it's not because he's old.
Can anyone tell me what's up with my gups?

We bought a fish medacation called Melafix, and we've been putting it in the water every day since Atlantis started look sick.

I honestly can't believe how long he lived! He's been looking like this for a long time. Today, I don't see the red lines...after reading what everybody said, we took him out and were about to flush him, but he started swimming around like crazy and I just couldn't do it!! He doesn't look good, and now all the other fish look bloated (exept the PREGNANT females!) I have no idea what I should do! : (( I feel so bad for them. I'm afraid that I'll wake up and they'll all be dead. And what's a "humane" way to get rid of a fish??HELP!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

I'm afraid that all of the guppies have the disease now. Is there any way to save them??

We put him in a separate container along with another guppy that looked sick, and the other guppy died today and the one that has been sick for a long time is STILL alive! I just can't believe how long he's lived! Should I put him back with the other fish? I've heard that you can give them peas to help them get better. Is that true?

1. She probably just really likes it there and feels safe there. Guppies do like to have some cover and the more you can give them the better. In fact, the more cover they have handy, the less they hide. I know sounds weird but it's true.

2. It sounds like to me that Atlantis is very very sick. Without seeing him, I would guess that he has bloat or dropsy. This is a condition where fluid builds up in his abdomen due to an internal infection. I'll be totally honest with you, it's very rare for a fish that sick to ever survive. The two red lines on his sides means he's bleeding inside now and won't live much longer. The Melafix was a good idea, but just not strong enough, it's a very weak medication. If I were you I would remove Atlantis from the tank and humanely euthanize him. If her were to die in the tank there is a good chance other fish in the tank could catch the disease. Sorry to give you bad news, but you need to know to protect your other fish.

Sometimes some of my guppies will hide in floating plants just before having fry, but usually mine are sick when they do this. I have a male that is bloated and hides but has been this way for awhile with no other bad signs. Bottom line watch them both closely to make sure they are not sick.

Not exactly because guppies school together at least I think they or maybe it's her favorite spot. Some fish do this and stay in a particular spot because it's their favorite. And your other guppy I'm not exactly sure. Maybe he has swim bladder disease though I doubt it or he woulkd be floating near the top. He could also be constipated. Just feed him some peas and he should be fine. Then fast him for a day and feed him peas again. Hope this helps.

confident, gravel is important for some motives. It grabs debris and wastes from the fish so it is not continually floating around. Gravel is especially sturdy for containing sturdy micro organism so the tank can no longer merely place self belief in the filter out for cycling applications. Your guppies in all possibility died from ammonia poisoning because of the fact evidently there is quite some previous nutrients on the backside of the tank. Do you have a filter out on your tank/s? in case you do no longer, you like it. additionally a water partial water replace might shop something of your fries. Do a 25 % water replace with conditioned, de-chlorinated water.

I think your guppy might be hiding because the males are driving her crazy. I've read that you should have a more females to males ratio like 2 or 3 females to one male. as for your fat male I dont have a clue
