Well, that's a very blanket, generalized question/statement: "[Why] do people hate blacks?" The hazardous wording of this presupposes the notion that 'all people hate blacks' ... nothing could be further from the truth, thankfully. There are very many people, of opposite races that love Black people (and any other race, for that matter) just as equally as they would their own.
In any case, I will say that your question does warrant some deeper consideration! Yes, why is racism still thriving in the world -- especially in our day and age? For that, I can't exactly give you a hard and fast answer, but if I were to hazard a guess, it would be: It chiefly has to do with the way in which people are reared. As long as parents and/or guardians continue to teach impressionable minds that individuals are invariably inferior or superior based solely upon their ethnicity, then we will not see racism's pervasiveness dissipate, but rather spread wider and grow stronger.
To that end, the only advice I can offer is that you be your own man, with your own mind. If you're one of the fortunate ones, then that advice should take you down the road less traveled by -- a road, that is, of tolerance and open-mindedness.
Oh, and tell your friend to stay strong. Who knows, he just might listen.

In the 60's, blacks were critisized and chastized just for being the color that they were, because white people thought that they should be superior. Just because of the whole "slavery" thing, they thought that thats how they should stay..is "slaves".
Maybe it was somthing he did previously to them? Maybe it was just that they were jumping all black guys because of what a black guy did to them? Or maybe its just because they felt that they had a right or a Superiority over him that they thought by doing that would make them feel better.
Why do chrisians gay bash? Why do humans really do anything that involves superiority? Honestly, its just to try and get people to aknowledge them so they can feel better about themselves. I am sorry about your friend. Tell him not to take it to heart and if that happens again, tell him to report it.
Hate crimes in this country are a big no no and that is one of them.

Ignorance is the most common answer to your question & it's very true. Did u try to defend your friend in any way? Did he fight back? I find it a little hard that a black man just stood there and let a bunch of white boys beat him up.

All depends on how people were brought up. My father is racist, my mother isn't, I'm happy to say I went the right way and race is nothing to me.
Sadly, even in 2007, people continue to be small-minded. The hate can be passed down from generation to generation, the majority of people are not racist.

Because black people are the most hated race on this planet. Lies and propanganda about Black people have been pass down from generation to generation of non-black people to the point that even some black people believe that s--t! But you know what--I believe in muliticulturalism and the global world. I believe that people regardless of race are human and have heart. On this planet we are brothers and sisters and I wish people look in the mirror and see that the differences they think they see, are not reflections on humankind.

That is very sad. I hope they find and chastise those white guys. I do not know what my feelings would be towards white people if I were black or any other visable minority. Its a sad world that we are judged by the color of our skin. Try to do your part to bring these thugs to justice. I hope your friend is ok. Poor guy.

Well those must be narrow-minded people. I don't hate black. My neighbor is a black woman. Yes sometimes she is so unpredictable and touchy, but that doesn't mean I hate black people because of her. LOL You cannot condemn the entire black race just because of one person only.

They are just a lot of bigots and really should be put to sleep like a savage dog would be, mind you I would rather have a savage dog than a bigot. They didnt have white hoods on and from the deep south of the US did they.

People are ignorant!!! This kind of thing should never happen to anyone. People of all walks get this kind of thing. It is really sad that we as human beings....God's children...have to put up with bigotry. I'm sorry for your friend. I cannot speak for everyone but let him know that I am nothing like that and there are many others like me out there.

Because they are afraid of them. Fear motivates nearly everything here in the US.
And if you are Black, most people take comfort in their supposition that White supremacists are after them.
If you are non white and tell ANY white person that you have NO fear of supremacists, they will be angry. Try it, you'll see.
