It is a really neat town. My girlfriend is currently attending ASU, and I have visited her at least a half-dozen times. There are two lakes, one on the northwest side (O.C. Fisher Lake), and one on the southwest side (Lake Nasworthy). San Angelo State Park is located at OC Fisher. Nasworthy is a beautiful lake, and provides ample fishing, picknicking, jogging, etc.
Around ASU campus, you'll find a variety of ma-and-pa restaurants. Knickerbocker Rd and Sherwood Way are two of the main thoroughfares in the southwest part of the city (where I've spent most of my time...near ASU campus). There are plenty of fast food restaurants. I highly recommend Rosa's Cafe, located on Southwest Blvd about a mile north of Sunset Drive. It is a good TexMex restuarant similar to Taco Cabana or Taco Bueno, but I believe it is a step above.
There is a great little coffee shop at the corner of Knickerbocker Rd and Sunset Drive where students like to sip coffee (or sodas) and study. Reminds me of Central Perk from FRIENDS.
The one good apartment complex that I've seen and been in is Wellington Place, located at 4110 Wellington St (off Sunset Drive near Southwest Boulevard). It is only a 10 minute drive to ASU and it is in a good neighborhood.
I hope I was of good help to you. As I mentioned earlier, it's a nice-sized city that has some good sights to see.

San Angelo is a blast!! The college can be hard so be careful, but I go back to the town all the time just to go have fun!! During the summer, the place to be is the lake!! Everyone goes to this place called the horseshoe (it is a part of the lake that is shaped like a horseshoe) to swim, boat, jet ski, drink, play volleyball, bbq, etc. If you like to go out they have a Graham's, Scrub Pub, Buffalo Wild Wings (best drinks in town), Bailey's, a pool hall called Giz n' Hum's, and more places. Just be careful of what kind of friends you do meet, because there are some that will get ya hanging around the wrong crowd. I hope ya have fun!!

I visit San Angelo for business occasionally. It is a really nice mid sized town with cool people and seems to me to be just the right size where you find all of the major things a person would look for without all of the traffic and crime. I hear the law down there is really strict though. Overall it is by far my favorite west Texas town!

bypass downtown. There are astonishing eating places, cafes, bars, museums, El Mercado industry, Rivercenter Mall, The Riverwalk, Alamo, etc. besides that.. there is an artwork museum in Alamo Heights (McNay artwork Museum) and a jap backyard around that section. besides the downtown section, there is Sea international and Fiesta Texas. besides that, there won't be lots to do. San Antonio is a suburban city. each and every little thing is unfolded and each 2 miles, there's a Wal Mart, homestead Depot, HEB, and a McDonald's. Little variety. comparable old comparable old. in case you like procuring, i'd recommend Northstar Mall and l. a. Cantera (mixed use progression)

I was accepted to ASU back in 1992 and to tell you the truth, it was the best time I ever had. I haven't been back since '93, but I met some of my closest friends today there and grew up quite a bit. I'm not sure If they still have the high rise dorms, which is where i stayed. For us, all we did was go to school, drink, eat, drink, run around town (which really had nothing), drink, play golf, drink, go to the lake, drink...you get the picture. You'd have to experience it for yourself to really appreciate it. Good luck to you...
