With freedom's come responsibilities. If every person on a train decided to do what they wanted the train ride would be truly long.
I think as far a freedom is concerned the use of an ipod on a train is the least of our worries. Try to focus of the bigger issues, for example:-
1) Being filmed on CCTV 24/7
2) ID Cards
3) DNA Data Base
4) Interviews for first time passport applicants.
5) Telephone tapping with out a high court order.
6) Trial with out jury.
7) Medical records data base.
I could go on and on, but in short over the last few years our freedom's have become very badly eroded by our government to PROTECT us from Terrorism, Paedophiles, and benefit frauds.

Freedoms are those actions protected by our rights.
You cannot lose rights because of freedoms.
As far as music and phones, there is a right to listen and to speak. But those rights can be reasonably limited in public, so that they do not infringe on the rights of others to not have to listen. That's why cities and counties can impose noise ordinances for excessive volume, or require the use of earphones in public places.
It's all about balancing one set of rights against another.

If you are saying we should have freedom to choose what we hear and how loud, where does it stop. What if someone was playing music you disliked louder than you, and you couldn`t hear your music what would be your feelings then? I have no problem with you using your phone or ipod, just as long as you use your earphones. Its all about give and take, we have to exist together so make it pleasant!!

Yep, the "understanding all government" is already doing lots of the flaws you point out, and rather, we don't have that many freedoms left. in case you go searching, you will quickly comprehend the government is in each and every factor of our lives, which comprise our bedrooms and homes. i'm in my Eighteen Eighties and in my lifetime the shortcoming of freedoms has been mind-blowing and fast. it isn't the rustic i all started my life in, and leans greater in the direction of a dictatorship every day. we don't administration our government as initially planned, quite our government controls us. merely look a this contemporary fiasco, the "bailout plan" the place over 80 % of the persons who voiced their opinion and desires to the representatives to no longer help the plan, they surpassed it besides, evidence that our word ability no longer something, and the stupid public voted those self same human beings back into place of work. they only stole over seven-hundred billion funds out of our wallets and handbags, and we had no longer something to assert approximately it.

There is an old saying. Freedom has nothing to do with pleasing yourself. If you impact unpleasantly on others in a public enviroment you are abusing your freedom and being selfish and inconsiderate. Am I right in thinking you are young and not a professional?

You are interpreting as 'rights' and 'freedoms' things which don't actually exist.
Who ever told you that you have these rights? You and too many others assume rights that don't exist.
How does your right to listen to your i-pod as loud as you like fit in with my freedom to stick the i-pod up your arsehole in response to your taste in music?

Yes they are, but you complain about personal things that are not without limits!
I would be more concerned about the FBI getting all your Internet records from everyone but Goggle, who refused, and they are now in hot water for their abuse of power!
I would be concerned about the "Patriot Act", a misnomer if I ever heard one, and the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which needs to be repealed.
