Ausblue is right.
~~ There is no real need to be homeless in Australia, our Government's Social Security Department (called Centrelink) provides a fortnightly payment to those whom are unemployed, have a disability, temporarily ill, the aged, unmarried/unemployed Mothers, carers (of the aged or disabled) etc.
It is not a huge amount (I believe it to be 33% of the basic minimum wage). But it is designed so that no one need go hungry.
There is other help available through Centrelink also, including emergency money for food and one off payments to help you find work.

~~ We also have a (Government) public housing department (though it badly needs more funds for homes) that houses people (for a very low rent). There is a very long waiting list in many communities however.

~~ Then there is the Salvation Army and many, many more religious and community groups helping with shelters, food and housing.

~~ So really (I think). in this country we should have no one living on the streets or going without food.
It does happen though and in alarming numbers.
Even more alarming is the number of teenagers on the street, often from broken homes but often because they CHOOSE it.
This is a most curious and distressing phenomenon; people choosing to live on the streets!

some of the lucky ones are helped & the charities feed them (I THINK) I never see them rarely sometimes in the city
lots of people busk & I dont know if they are homeless or what
They all get paid the dole (centrelink payments) if they have no job if they really are trying to get work but its not enough to pay rent food etc unless heaps live together
