False.
Their momentum perpendicular to the wall changes sign; that is what causes the force on the wall perceived as pressure.

If they lost energy, the gas would become colder.

True, but if there are other gas molocules that when a gas molecule stricks another pressure results as well, that is why a container with a gas in it can never have zero volume.
