I am taking my gf there, and $83 bucks is a ... little pricey. Any discounts out there on 1 day passes?

Yes - stop by your local Disney store and purchase your tickets there. They can offer a small discount for a one day pass. Enjoy your trip there!

do you or maybe your parents belong to AAA? They give discounts on Disneyland tickets, but I am not sure on the 1-Day Park Hopper. On Disney.com they don't discount until the 3-Day pass. The One-Day-One Park Pass is $63, no much of a savings, you may as well spend the extra 40 bucks and be able to see both parks.

Do you live in So Cal? For the cost of a regular 1-day park-hopper, I'm under the impression that you can get 2 days instead... while it lasts (through March?)

Also, if you work for some corporations or go to college, sometimes they have slightly discounted tickets. Lots of companies/schools do.

The easiest way to save $ would just be to stick with the one-day-one-park and decide which one it is that you really want to see.
