Bettas are very territorial and aggressive fish. The males will fight if kept together, and the males only will tolerate a female for breeding, after that then the male will relentlessly attack the female. Hope this helps!

NO!
Beta fish like to over rule each other, and will fight to the death, so keep them in separate tanks, or get rid of 2, and get some other type of fish to be with the beta.

Male bettas will never like each other they will always fight until one dies or both. Even putting mirror up can cause some males to kill themselves due to trying kill their reflection. By them opening their gills they are trying to warn off another male that this is their territory and will fight if they get to each other.
Note on Female bettas...
Male bettas with kill most female bettas during reproduction. The male will emit tiny bubbles on the surface this is a sign he is ready to mate. Giving him a female betta he will wrap his body around hers and start squeezing her to get her to release eggs. This contracting on the female will normally cause damage and kill the female. The male will then encase each egg into a bubble after fertilized. Once the egg has hatched he will eat the young. Amazing bettas every survive to be sold.

No, do not put your Betta fish in the same tank. They are an aggressive fish and will attack each other. The only time you can put them together is when you breed a male and a female.

A male in the same environment with another male spells big trouble. Obviously a male and a female is okay or there wouldn't be any Beta's.

Its is a fatal mistake to let male bettas mix at all, even with dividers some over agressive fish may leap over to kill his neightbor.
Some males won't even let a female share water with them. I was trying to prep a pair for breeding and the male had a huge bubble nest and kept coming over to see his female through the glass. I introduced her a week later and he torror her up good.
I quickly saved my poor female and gave her some melafix to avoid infections. I may try again, i have a light rose pink male and bright pink female and I think they would have neat colored offspring.

If they are males they wont get along. Beta's are fighting fish. They will eat eachothers fins from my experience.

I have two male betta (one red and one blue) and I found a tank in which they are in one tank but in seperate compartments. When I first put them in there they were splashing all around, but now they know they can't get to each other so they are pretty calm. I've noticed that their colors are brighter and its easier to clean one tank instead of two.

NO!!! If they are opening/ expanding their gills it means they are aggressive towards one another. Do NOT put them in the same tank. Unless, of course, they are all females or two of them are females it's ok. They will hate but not kill each other. Females don't kill at all and males only kill other males. So, if you have all males, do not put them in the same tank. Even if two are males and there's one female. Unless, of course, you want dead fish, but which i highly doubt.
